Digital Futures Pathway

The Digital Futures Pathway is CBE's “collegiate in the cloud" concept delivered through in-person, online and blended learning environments. An extension of CBE's career pathways programming, it offers enhanced opportunities in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT). This is a multi-year program with various entry points provides exposure in diverse areas initially and then a narrower focus on specific interests throughout high school.

In partnership with SAIT's School for Advanced Digital Technology, MacPhail School of Energy, and School of Manufacturing and Automation, the Digital Futures Pathway prepares students for the rapidly growing tech ecosystem and connects them with career interests and potential pathways into the workplace.

Digital Futures Pathway Courses

•      Design Thinking and Innovation Technologies

This dynamic and innovative program offers students a hands-on, practical experience in a state-of-the-art interactive design lab. It focuses on developing foundational technical skills in prototyping and Design Thinking. Students work with industry-standard tools such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and computer-aided design (CAD) software to develop these skills. Students apply and refine their knowledge in response to engineering-adjacent design challenges.

•      Electro-Technologies

This is an introductory electronics course, where you will learn to solder and discover the function of numerous electronic gadgets/components. Study DC power sources and learn how to read and measure resistances and voltages in DC circuits using a multi-meter. You will learn bread boarding techniques and construct several circuits to practice your skills. Virtually interact with a robot and learn to program using the language robotC. You will then be challenged to program your robot so it will be successful in completing several tasks. Finally, you will assemble your own electronic project that you get to keep! – Strobe light

•      Broadcasting and Podcasting

Jump into the world of Podcasting and Broadcasting and create cool content in a real studio setup! In this course, you'll learn hands-on skills like recording, editing, and broadcasting, using top-notch tech that professionals love. You'll get to produce your own podcasts, short videos, and even school news segments—turning your creative ideas into reality!

•      Cybersecurity and Game Development

This is a 4-credit introductory course focusing on coding, computer hardware, operating systems, networking, and cyber security. A student will be introduced to such concepts by building their own PC and a local area ethernet network, installing and virtualizing Windows and Linux operating systems, coding in C++ and exploring Cybersecurity. This course is focused on student engagement, a fun time and hands-on project-based learning.
