Back to school means back to football!
If you are interested in football, come on out and play! NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED! Don't wait until your grade 12 year to decide that you should have played all 3 years (though it's still okay to come out if you are going into grade 12). Football is a unique high school sport in that after high school there really isn't a way to play organized football, unless you are playing at the post-secondary level. So if you like the game, come on out and give it a try.
The football season ramps up right away. The first practice is August 27th. Equipment handout will begin at 2:45 with practice starting at 3:30, going until 5:45. The first day is helmets only with no contract (so bring shorts, shirt, shoes (cleats preferred)) . We will begin with lots of safe contact training and progress our way into contact over the next few days.
The practice schedule is
- Wednesday August 27th 3:30-5:45
- Thursday August 28th 3:30-5:45
- Friday August 29th 1:30 - 3:30
- Tuesday Sept 2 - Thursday Sept 4 3:45- 5:45
- Friday Sept 5 - Jamboree (details to come)
For the remainder of the season we practice Monday to Thursday from 3:45 - 5:45 and Fridays from 1:30 to 3:30, unless we have a game.
Football is a big time commitment, and like every team in the city we are competing to win every game. This means that all starting positions are earned each and every game, playing time is reflective of the effort and execution during practice. On top of this you are a student athlete, which means that you must maintain the expectations of being a student first, so you will very quickly learn to manage your time to balance the fun of Football with the rigor of the classroom. Issues in the classroom will affect your playing time.
With all of that said, Football is the best way to throw yourself into Churchill, to make lots of friends, develop good habits, and have a lot of fun.
I look forward to seeing you August 27th at 2:45! If you have any questions feel free to email me at ryszol@cbe.ab.ca
